Reading Books

Reading books at home is a part of your child's homework and is valuable to their progression.  Please can reading books be brought to school everyday.  We will endeavor to change your child's books once a week but will take every opportunity to hear them read.  We would really appreciate it if you could support you child by listening to them read at home a few times a week.  Please jot a few notes in your child's reading record book telling us how much they have read, whether they enjoyed the story and if they struggled to sound out or remember tricky words.  To support your child you could ask them a few questions (such as what will happen next, why an event happened or how a character feels) throughout the book to encourage comprehension.

Homework

Your child will be issued with homework every Friday by both Year 2 teachers, regardless of which set they are in.  Homework could involve learning spellings. doing comprehension activities, practising writing, projects during the holidays and maths work which will consolidate work covered during the week.  Homework should be handed in to the appropriate teacher.  Spelling tests will take place most Fridays but written homework should be submitted on Wednesdays.  English work should be recorded in pencil using the orange book provided.  Please do not glue Maths sheets into these books.  Spellings will be available on here should your child wish to practise interactively.

P.E.

Year 2 children have P.E. on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Children are allowed to bring outdoor kit for these lessons, please ensure all kit is clearly named.  Also, please remember to remove your child's earrings before they come to school on P.E. days.
